John 3:16, the common verse in the Bible says "for God so LOVED the world . . ." The love of God in this passage shows He really loved us. But today's definition of love is a lot different from what god had towards us. I will be comparing the love of God to that we practice these days.

1. The love of God is not lust-i.e the love we now practice in our modern world is virtually lust. If a man and woman say they love themselves, the first thing they do to show this love is by having sex and that is not what the Bible tells us about love. The Bible did not say "for God so love the world that he slept with the world". We must know that agape love is best kind of love we are expected as Christians to possess.1Cor 13 says it all.
2. Agape love is not selfish: The love God had towards us is not self-centered. After Adam & Eve sinned against God, the relationship between man and god was broken. Ever since then God has been planning on how to restore that relationship. He didn't consider Himself alone but He took into consideration His creatures in the world. Most people go into relationship just to please their sexual urge. They are always about themselves. We must follow the God kind of Love.
3. Love is not conditional: The love we practice is "if you don't give me this you won't get this from me". And that is not suppose to be so. God didn't ask us to pay before sending us His son. Even after He died for us, He still watches over us without taking any penny from us. He does all this because He Loved us.
  In conclusion, the Bible says "God is LOVE". If you claim you love God and hate your brother, You are just deceiving yourself and you are still in darkness (1John 2:9,4:20-21). These some verses for as many that reads this (1John 3:18,3:1,3:23,4:7-12). If we want to know the essence of LOVE, I would want us to go read 1Cor 13:1-end.
